> The iPhone 18 Pro has 12GB, confirmed in Xcode 27, and the Duo is expected to match. A memory shortage is the likely reason for the cut.

A leaker who posts as Instant Digital says Apple originally planned 16GB of RAM for the [iPhone 18 Pro](https://idevice.com/phones/iphone-pro/roadmap) lineup and the [iPhone Duo](https://idevice.com/phones/iphone-fold/roadmap), MacRumors reported on October 6. The Weibo post is brief and doesn't say when Apple considered that amount. The 16GB plan rests on that one post.

The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max ship with 12GB, the same as the iPhone 17 Pro models, and Xcode 27 confirms it. Sixteen would have been 4GB more than that. The iPhone Duo is also expected to have 12GB, but the Xcode data used to check the Pro models didn't yet include the foldable, so that figure isn't confirmed. Apple announced both phones at its September 9 event.

Analysts had pointed to 12GB well before launch. Ming-Chi Kuo predicted it for the iPhone 18 lineup in April 2025, and Jeff Pu projected the same capacity for the Pro models and Apple's first foldable in January. A March report from The Bell said Samsung would supply 12GB memory modules for the Duo. That matches what the Pro models carry now.

That March report described sharply rising prices for the 12GB modules, and Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported that memory costs led Apple to discuss a higher starting price for the foldable. Kuo also said DRAM shortages were forcing Apple to scale back its 2026 hardware shipment plans. Together that makes the global memory shortage the likely explanation for the change.

iPhone Duo pre-orders begin October 16, a week before the phone is available on October 23.
