> The watchOS 27 beta names a standalone recovery app, doubled storage and a new sensor family, days before Apple shows the watch.

Apple Watch code carries a name for something Apple has not announced: Readiness.

MacRumors forums member pdfu read through the watchOS 27 and iOS 27 betas ahead of this week's announcement and came back with four findings, and the first is a whole app. Readiness sits in the default Home Screen layout immediately after Workout, and it is separate from Vitals, the app the watch already uses to flag overnight changes in your body. The Watch app on iPhone references it too, inside the code that decides how icons get arranged. Two places, one name, and no mention of it anywhere from Apple.

Strength training gets a real log. The health infrastructure in the beta can store individual sets, how many reps you did, the weight, the equipment, the duration, and which side of your body you used. That is a gym notebook, not a summary number at the end of a session. Anyone who lifts has been keeping that in a separate app for years.

Then there is a new optical sensing family in the code called Sunstone4p0. Optical sensing is how the watch reads your pulse, by shining light into your skin and measuring what comes back. The new family has lower noise coefficients, which in plain terms means it throws away less of a weak reading. It also picks which sensing channel to use based on the wrist you wear the watch on and which way round it sits. Apple hasn't said any of this, so it reads as revised heart sensing hardware that somebody at Apple thought worth building, not yet a feature with a name.

The fourth finding is the least interesting and the easiest to check on Wednesday. A storage profile tied to the T8320 chip covers 128GB on both the [Series 12](https://idevice.com/smart-watches/apple-watch/roadmap) and the Ultra 4, double the 64GB in the current watches.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has reported that both new watches will tout new health and fitness features. Our own Apple Watch roadmap has carried the same shape of expectation for months, which is that the 2026 watches change on health and speed rather than on design. A recovery app, a sensor rebuild and a strength log all sit inside that.

None of the four is visible to anyone using the betas today, and Apple can leave any of it out.

pdfu has a short and good record, having found two unreleased game controllers, T6502 and T1057, in the first macOS 26.7 release candidate, and a four-speaker HomePod surround system with a Party Mode in the eighth audioOS 27 beta. Apple announces the watches later this week.
