> The new 14 million target runs over 12 months, so it keeps Duos coming through next year rather than pulling January deliveries forward.

Apple has told Foxconn and its parts suppliers to plan for about 14 million [iPhone Duo](https://idevice.com/phones/iphone-fold/roadmap)s instead of 9.7 million, [DigiTimes reported](https://www.macrumors.com/2026/10/22/apple-boosts-iphone-duo-orders/). That's roughly 44% more phones. Supply chain sources tied the change to pre-orders.

Those opened on October 16. Within 30 minutes, U.S. shipping estimates for every configuration had slipped to January 25. Apple called demand "nothing short of extraordinary" last week. The phone goes on sale this Friday, October 23, at $1,999.

The 14 million is spread over a full 12 months, not crammed into what's left of 2026. So the bigger order is mostly about next year. It won't pull a January delivery into November by itself.

DigiTimes said output will depend on how assembly goes, and earlier reports described trouble with assembly, the displays and the hinges. In late August, a supply chain manager put production at a few hundred foldables a day. An order is an instruction to suppliers. It isn't a phone.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported that two months ago Apple feared those limits could push sales into later November. It held the October date instead. Gurman says Apple built enough stock to launch on time, and expects supply to stay limited after that. A 44% bump in the order book fits that picture: buyers want far more Duos than the lines are turning out, and Apple is asking for more anyway.

DigiTimes also expects foldable phone shipments worldwide to grow 25.7% this year and 59.1% in 2027, up from 7.4% in 2025, with Apple's arrival expected to help. Last year's growth was a single digit. The forecast for next year is eight times that.

If you want a Duo and haven't ordered, January is where U.S. estimates sit today. A larger order spread across 12 months keeps phones coming through next year rather than clearing the backlog this fall. Order now if you're sure you want one. If you're still deciding, there's no rush: the phone you'd get in February is the same phone, and by then you'll have read plenty of owners' accounts of living with the hinge.
