# Apple has a new Vision Pro in the works for late 2028

Apple is working on a new Vision Pro, codenamed N224, that could arrive between late 2028 and early 2029, [Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported](https://www.bloomberg.com/news/newsletters/2026-09-27/meta-s-vr-glasses-are-exactly-what-the-apple-vision-pro-should-have-been-mujvy8q6) in Sunday's Power On newsletter. It isn't the Vision Air, the lighter N100 project Apple shelved last year. N224 could instead succeed the M5 Vision Pro, possibly at a lower price. Apple has four concepts in the works. One keeps the current egg shape and tries plastic, titanium and other metals to cut weight. Another moves the computing parts and battery into a separate puck, the way [Meta's $1,299 VR Glasses](https://idevice.com/meta-connect-2026-1-299-vr-glasses-a-camera-free-ray-ban-and-a-449-gen-3) do. Some Apple executives would rather stay closer to an all-in-one design.

When [John Ternus likened Vision Pro to the early days of computers](https://idevice.com/john-ternus-vision-pro-early-days-of-computers) this week, he wasn't asked whether Apple would keep making headsets, and he didn't say. The hardware hasn't changed since the M5 update, which still starts at $3,499, and Apple has laid off staff in the Vision Pro group. A window more than two years out and four competing designs leave plenty of room for N224 to change or stop.
