> Apple's new safety video follows a mountain biker whose watch called for help while he was unconscious, the third time in a year Apple has told this story.

Phil crashed his mountain bike while riding with his two young children, broke his collarbone and seven ribs, and was knocked unconscious. His Apple Watch detected the fall, called emergency services, shared his location so firefighters could reach him, and alerted his wife. He spent a week in the hospital. Apple published the account as a video on its YouTube channel, and [9to5Mac wrote it up the same day](https://9to5mac.com/2026/07/21/apple-shares-true-story-video-on-how-apple-watch-helped-rescue-an-injured-cyclist/).

Apple aired a longer version of the same idea during its October 2025 Awe Dropping event, with several users describing medical emergencies and accidents, and ran a Thankfully, I was wearing it campaign in China earlier this year built on Fall Detection, Crash Detection and heart rate alerts. Phil ends the video saying "Just really glad that I had my Apple Watch on."
