# Apple's Fifth Avenue store will have 150 iPhone Duos to try, Gurman says

Apple's Fifth Avenue store in New York will have more than 150 [iPhone Duo](https://idevice.com/phones/iphone-fold/roadmap)s out to try. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported the number in his Power On newsletter, along with counts for Apple's other big stores ahead of the foldable's October 23 launch.

The Apple Park Visitor Center, at Apple's headquarters, gets nearly 100. Michigan Avenue in Chicago, the Grove in Los Angeles and the Upper West Side store in Manhattan get roughly 30 to 40 each. Smaller stores get around 20, for a phone that comes in just two colors.

Apple also made a new MagSafe stand for the demo tables. It holds an unfolded Duo beside two regular iPhones, so the open screen sits right next to a normal one. Other Duos will be placed along the sides of stores with no security cable. You can pick one up, fold it shut and try StandBy, the mode that turns a charging iPhone into a bedside clock and photo frame.

Some stores also get a fixture that opens and closes a Duo by itself. Apple wants the phone to be "impossible to miss" when you walk in, according to Gurman.

Gurman reported earlier this month that US buyers who collect a Duo at an Apple Store can have it greet them by name, in English or Spanish, the first time it turns on.

Earlier reports put assembly yields near 60% and launch stock on the thin side, so a store full of demo units doesn't mean a store full of boxes. The 256GB model starts at $1,999. Pre-orders open October 16 at 8 a.m. Eastern. Apple's "Get ready" step opens October 12 in the Apple Store app and on Apple's website, and it lets you pick the color, storage, carrier and payment method ahead of time.

If you've already decided, finish that step on October 12 and order the minute pre-orders open. If you'd rather hold one before spending two thousand dollars, the big stores will have plenty to try from October 23, even if they have few to sell that day.
