> Google Health 5.05 adds two-way Apple Health syncing, so Fitbit exercise, sleep, vitals and steps can write into the iPhone's health store without a third-party bridge.

Google Health version 5.05 can now write Fitbit data into Apple Health, covering exercise records, sleep, vitals and steps. Until August 2 the connection ran one way: Google Health could read what an iPhone and an Apple Watch recorded and could not send anything back, so anyone wearing a Fitbit next to an iPhone paid a third party to see their own numbers in one place. The same update adds Smart Health Links, which turn a set of medical records into a link you can hand to a doctor. Restart the app or the write permission does not appear.

Apple launched HealthKit in 2014, the system inside the iPhone that stores your health data. Fitbit turned it down within weeks and said it had no plans to support it. Google bought Fitbit in 2021 and renamed it Google Health in May. The feature shipped this week.
