## What will it have?

### When will Apple release the Apple Ring?

No announced date. CCS Insight chief analyst Ben Wood predicted in October 2024 that Apple could release a ring in 2026, but that's an analyst call with no inside sourcing. ### Is Apple actually making a smart ring?

According to leaker Kosutami, Apple is developing a smart ring. The leak, dated June 24, 2026, offered no other details. No other major outlet has confirmed it. Mark Gurman said in October 2024 that Apple had no plans for a ring, and while Eddy Cue has since taken charge of Apple's Health division, Gurman hasn't updated his assessment. ### What sensors would the Apple Ring have?

Based on a patent filing, Apple is exploring: heart rate and blood oxygen sensing, skin temperature, a motion sensor for gestures and step counting, and NFC. Whether all of these make it into a consumer product is unknown. ### Would the Apple Ring replace the Apple Watch?

Almost certainly not. Apple has too much invested in Apple Watch to cannibalize it. The more likely framing is companion device: ring handles passive overnight health tracking (where watch battery falls short), watch handles notifications, Siri, and active workouts. Apple has filed ring-related patents since at least 2015 (heart rate monitoring, Force Touch, and NFC), 2020 (a version using ultra-wideband to signal nearby devices like an Apple TV), 2023 (skin-to-skin contact detection), and 2024 (health sensors, motion sensors, NFC, and an embedded microphone that can infer context). ### Why did Apple shelve the ring before?

In October 2024, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported that Apple had explored a smart ring but had no active development and no plans to launch one. MacRumors noted that a ring would likely cannibalize Apple Watch sales since it would offer the same feature set. The wearables market has since kept growing for competitor rings.
