# Apple iPhone Duo

## What will it have?

- **Will it cost more?** Yes, more than any iPhone before it. iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 for 256GB and runs to $3,199 for 2TB, with $2,199 and $2,599 in between. That opening price is $800 above the iPhone 18 Pro. Ming-Chi Kuo's above $2,000 and Bloomberg's $1,999 both landed close, and the $2,199 Bloomberg later floated turned out to be the 512GB tier. - **Will it still handle a shower or a swim?** Yes, it survives a shower and a soaking. Its rating is IP68. The maker states immersion beyond a metre. - **Will it have more storage?** Four tiers, and it goes higher than any other iPhone. 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB. MacRumors had reported three tiers stopping at 1TB, and TrendForce was the only one to call the 2TB option. TrendForce was right. - **Will the screen change?** It is two screens now. A 7.6 inch Super Retina XDR folding display inside, and a 5.4 inch one on the cover, and both run ProMotion up to 120Hz with Always-On and a Dynamic Island. Both peak at 3,000 nits outdoors. The inner panel gets a nano-texture finish to cut glare, which is the first time Apple has put that on an iPhone. - **Will the screen be bigger?** Much bigger when you open it. The inner display is 7.6 inches, which Apple says is 50% more screen than the iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the largest iPhone display it has ever made. Shut, you are using a 5.4 inch cover screen. Pre-announcement reporting had guessed 7.8 inches inside and 5.5 outside, so it is a little smaller than expected on both counts. - **Will it do 5G?** Yes, on Apple's own C2 modem, and it covers mmWave as well as the ordinary sub-6 bands. There is no SIM tray at all. It takes two active eSIMs and stores eight or more, and Apple says it is not compatible with physical SIM cards anywhere. - **Will it unlock with my face?** No. There is no Face ID and no TrueDepth camera on iPhone Duo, and Apple's specification does not mention either. You unlock with Touch ID in the side button instead, and that is also how you pay with Apple Pay. MacRumors called this before the announcement. - **Will it be lighter?** It weighs 254g.  ([on the Guide](https://idevice.com/phones/iphone-fold/roadmap#can-will-it-be-lighter))
- **Will the camera be better?** It is a 48MP Dual Fusion system, so it is two rear cameras rather than the Pro's three. You get a 48MP Fusion Main at 26mm and ƒ/1.6, and a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide at 13mm. The 2x telephoto is a crop of the main sensor rather than a lens of its own, so zoom stops at 2x optical quality where the iPhone 18 Pro reaches 8x. There are two front cameras: a 12MP Center Stage on the cover and an under-display FaceTime camera inside. - **Will the battery be bigger?** Apple does not publish a capacity figure for iPhone, so the 4,883mAh from the regulatory filings stays unconfirmed. What Apple does say is that there are two batteries rather than one, and that the eSIM-only design frees up the space they sit in. The runtime it publishes is up to 24 hours of typical use, 31 hours of video on the inner screen and 44 hours on the outer one. - **Will it be thinner?** Open, it is the thinnest iPhone Apple has ever shipped, at 5.2mm. Closed it is 11.3mm, because you are stacking two halves. It weighs 254 grams either way. The reports had it between 4.5mm and 5.6mm open and around 9mm to 9.5mm shut, so they were right about the open figure and optimistic about the closed one. - **Will it get a new chip?** The A20 Pro, the same chip as the iPhone 18 Pro. It has a 6-core CPU with two super cores, a 7-core GPU with Neural Accelerators, and a dual 16-core Neural Engine. There is a vapor chamber to keep it running hard. MacRumors had expected the plain A20 and TrendForce had expected the Pro, and TrendForce was right. - **What software will it run?** iOS 27, not iPadOS. Apple has reworked it for the folding shape, with side-by-side apps, hands-free FaceTime and layouts that follow the angle you leave the screen at. MacRumors had this right before the announcement.
