## What will it have? (today's facts are from Apple iPhone 17)

- **Will the battery last longer?** Nobody has reported a battery figure for the iPhone 18 yet. The iPhone 17 does up to 30 hours of video playback, or 27 hours if you are streaming it, and that is the number to expect it to build on. ([on the Guide](https://idevice.com/phones/iphone/roadmap#can-will-the-battery-last-longer))
- **Will it cost more?** Probably not. DigiTimes reports the $799 starting price holds even as Apple trims display and chip costs, and Ming-Chi Kuo says next-generation pricing stays where it is. ([on the Guide](https://idevice.com/phones/iphone/roadmap#can-will-it-cost-more))
- **Will it still handle a shower or a swim?** Almost certainly yes. The iPhone 17 is IP68, rated for 6 metres for 30 minutes, which covers a shower or a drop in the sink but not laps in a pool, and nothing reported suggests the 18 changes that. ([on the Guide](https://idevice.com/phones/iphone/roadmap#can-will-it-still-handle-a-shower-or-a-swim))
- **Will it have more storage?** No storage change has been reported. The iPhone 17 comes in 256GB and 512GB, and the base tier is already 256GB. ([on the Guide](https://idevice.com/phones/iphone/roadmap#can-will-it-have-more-storage))
- **Will the screen change?** Only slightly. Reporting is consistent that the iPhone 18 keeps the iPhone 17 exterior, with a narrower Dynamic Island the one visible change. The iPhone 17's 6.3 inch screen already runs 120Hz ProMotion. ([on the Guide](https://idevice.com/phones/iphone/roadmap#can-will-the-screen-change))
- **Will the screen be bigger?** Not on the reporting so far. Fixed Focus Digital describes only slight dimension changes, so expect the same 6.3 inches the iPhone 17 has. ([on the Guide](https://idevice.com/phones/iphone/roadmap#can-will-the-screen-be-bigger))
- **Will it unlock with my face?** Yes, expect so. Face ID is on the iPhone 17 and nothing reported points to it going anywhere on the 18. ([on the Guide](https://idevice.com/phones/iphone/roadmap#can-will-it-unlock-with-my-face))
- **Will it charge faster?** No faster charging has been reported. The iPhone 17 reaches 50% in about 20 minutes on a 40W wired charger. ([on the Guide](https://idevice.com/phones/iphone/roadmap#can-will-it-charge-faster))
- **Will it be lighter?** Unlikely to change much. The iPhone 17 weighs 177g and reports describe the same body carrying over, with only slight dimension changes. ([on the Guide](https://idevice.com/phones/iphone/roadmap#can-will-it-be-lighter))
- **Will the camera be better?** Digital Chat Station reports Apple is testing a 200MP main sensor of roughly 1/1.12 inches, but says it could be 2027 before one ships and has not tied it to a model year. The iPhone 17 shoots on a 48MP main camera, one of two on the back, with an 18MP front camera. ([on the Guide](https://idevice.com/phones/iphone/roadmap#can-will-the-camera-be-better))
- **Will it shoot better video?** Nothing has been reported about video on the iPhone 18. The iPhone 17 tops out at 4K Dolby Vision at 60fps. ([on the Guide](https://idevice.com/phones/iphone/roadmap#can-will-it-shoot-better-video))
- **What colours will it come in?** The iPhone 18's finishes have not leaked. The iPhone 17 comes in five: Black, White, Mist Blue, Sage and Lavender. ([on the Guide](https://idevice.com/phones/iphone/roadmap#can-what-colours-will-it-come-in))
- **Will the screen be sharper or brighter?** No panel change has been reported for the standard model. The iPhone 17 packs 460 pixels into every inch and peaks at 3,000 nits outdoors. ([on the Guide](https://idevice.com/phones/iphone/roadmap#can-will-the-screen-be-sharper-or-brighter))
- **Will it be thinner?** Probably not by much. Fixed Focus Digital reports only slight dimension changes against the iPhone 17, which is 7.95mm thick. ([on the Guide](https://idevice.com/phones/iphone/roadmap#can-will-it-be-thinner))
