# INMO's AIR3 Smart Glasses Are Recalled Over Burns and Overheating

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has recalled INMO's AIR3 smart glasses after the company logged ten reports of the glasses overheating. Wearers described a burning sensation to the face and the left side of the ear, and the CPSC says the defect carries a risk of serious injury or death.

INMO sold the AIR3 through Amazon, its own site and Kickstarter between December 2025 and August 2026, priced between $900 and $1,300. The recall covers roughly 1,643 units in the United States and another 120 in Canada, a small run for a hardware recall but one of the first the smart glasses category has seen.

The fix does not involve mailing anything back. The CPSC says INMO will push a software update, version V3.16, and asks anyone still wearing the AIR3 to stop immediately and contact the company for the free repair. INMO had not responded to questions about the recall as of Tuesday.

Smart glasses are still a small market next to phones or watches, but they are growing fast. Research firm Omdia counted 4.2 million units shipped worldwide in the first half of the year, with Meta accounting for roughly 3.4 million of them. Most of the remaining volume came from China.

A battery or heat problem is a different kind of trouble than the privacy backlash smart glasses have mostly drawn so far. The category's biggest controversies have centered on unannounced recording, not hardware overheating on someone's face. As more companies race into the space, a public recall over physical safety puts new pressure on all of them to prove the electronics are safe to wear this close to skin.
