> Nobody has repaired one of these yet, so the $1,155 is a forecast worked back off Samsung's foldable repair prices, not Apple's.

Ricky Panesar prices a broken iPhone Fold screen at £850, about $1,155. He founded the repair shop iCorrect and gave the estimate to Forbes ahead of the phone’s expected September launch. The comparison he worked from: the same repair on a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 costs £594, and £569 on the Z Fold 7 before it. Samsung uses its own display modules, which makes replacement parts easier to find and cheaper to source. Apple is buying its panels from Samsung Display and pairing them with a proprietary 3D-printed hinge that no repairer has opened and no owner has folded. "I think we're going to see the most expensive repair prices from Apple of any handheld device we've seen in the past," Panesar said. Independent shops have no experience of that hinge either, and the learning curve adds cost of its own.

AppleCare+ has covered iPhone screen breaks for as little as £29 an incident. Panesar expects the foldable to sit nearer £100, and thinks Apple may reconsider the unlimited repairs it introduced in recent years. The side-mounted Touch ID button is its own problem: a cracked sensor is a more complex repair than Face ID on a flat iPhone, and fewer independent repairers will be skilled enough to handle it in the first year. The phone is [expected in September](https://idevice.com/apple-september-9-event-six-products-foldable-iphone-tradeoffs) at around $2,000 or more. Samsung has been tinkering with its foldable software since 2019. The iPhone Fold will launch with iOS 27 running on a foldable for the first time.
