> Treat the seven-core GPU as an estimate. It was inferred from solder-ball positions on the board, and six or eight cores remain possible.

A Weibo user going by Fried White Rice posted what they describe as the solder joint layout for Apple's A20 Pro, the chip expected in both the [iPhone 18 Pro](https://idevice.com/phones/iphone-pro/roadmap) and the foldable [iPhone Ultra](https://idevice.com/phones/iphone-fold/roadmap). As [9to5Mac reported](https://9to5mac.com/2026/09/03/leaker-claims-iphone-18-pro-chip-will-have-7-gpu-cores-and-faster-ram/), the images show where the chip attaches to the circuit board rather than the die itself, and the core counts are inferences drawn from where the solder balls sit. Seven GPU cores is the leaker's best reading of that layout. Six and eight are both still on the table.

[MacRumors published the rest of the reconstruction](https://www.macrumors.com/2026/09/03/iphone-18-pro-chip-leak-suggests-improvements/): 8MB of shared L2 cache for the four efficiency cores, up from 6MB on the A19 Pro, with the two performance cores keeping their 16MB, and a memory interface widening from 64 bits to 96. A seventh GPU core is about 16 percent more graphics hardware, and you would feel it in a demanding game. The cache and the wider memory bus are the ones that show up everywhere else, in how fast the phone comes back to you when you are just using it. Apple announces on September 9.
