> Add the wireless kit and the price is $1,899, for a headset on the same chip as the Quest 2. A $1 fee holds a place in line, and it isn't refundable.

Pimax announced the Crystal Pro, a headset that streams PC VR wirelessly and also runs games on its own, Road to VR reported on October 6. It costs $1,399 and is slated to ship sometime next year. Pimax is taking reservations now for a $1 fee that isn't refundable.

Like the Steam Frame, the Crystal Pro is built around wireless PC VR streaming, which Pimax says runs on its own Native Foveated Streaming tech. The wireless kit is sold separately. The third-generation 60G AirLink is $599, so the headset and kit come to $1,899 together. Pimax says the kit sends the GPU's uncompressed image straight to the area of the panels you're looking at, at up to 6 Gbps and under 2 milliseconds of added latency. Without it, the headset streams over the Wi-Fi 6E adapter in the box.

On its own, the Crystal Pro runs OpenXR mobile VR titles and Android apps on a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 1, the same chip as the Meta Quest 2. Each eye gets a 2,880 x 2,880 quantum-dot LCD panel with a 110° horizontal field of view and refresh rates up to 120Hz, and eye tracking samples at 120Hz. The headset has no battery of its own. Power comes from a 16,000mAh external pack in the box.

Pimax also announced ringless controllers that track using the headset's cameras and can be clipped together into a standard wireless gamepad. A mini-PC called the Spation is coming too, with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D or equivalent and either a Radeon RX 9070 XT or a GeForce RTX 5070 Ti. It has no price or release date yet.
