> Tipster WalleGalaxy says the two top Galaxy S27 models will dim by lowering current instead of flashing the panel. Samsung hasn't confirmed it.

Samsung's two most expensive [Galaxy S27 phones](https://idevice.com/phones/galaxy-s/roadmap) may stop flickering when you turn the brightness down. Tipster WalleGalaxy posted on X that the S27 Pro and S27 Ultra will use DC dimming, and Android Headlines picked up the report today. It's one tipster's claim, and Samsung hasn't said a word about it.

If it holds, it's a first. Samsung has never shipped native DC dimming on its top flagships, and even the [Galaxy S26 Ultra](https://idevice.com/phones/galaxy-s/roadmap/s26-ultra) still dims its screen the old way.

## What changes when the screen gets dim

Samsung phones set brightness with pulse width modulation, usually shortened to PWM. The panel switches its light on and off very quickly, and the screen looks dimmer the longer it spends off. Most people never notice. Some people do, and for them reading a dim phone in a dark room can bring on eye strain, tiredness and headaches.

DC dimming gets there another way. It lowers the electrical current going to the pixels, so the screen darkens smoothly without strobing at all. Phones from Motorola and Xiaomi have offered it for years, so Samsung would be catching up here, not leading.

The same report says Samsung is working with health and safety firms to tune Eye Comfort Shield, the phone's built-in setting for easier viewing, so it does more to cut visual fatigue. That part is software. The dimming change is in the hardware.

## Why the report names only two phones

The split fits a display leak from Thursday. That one said the [base S27 and S27 Plus keep Samsung's older M14+ OLED panel](https://idevice.com/galaxy-s27-and-plus-reportedly-get-an-older-oled-panel-than-the-pro-and-ultra), while the S27 Pro and S27 Ultra move to the newer M16 generation. Korean outlet ETNews had already reported M16 for the Pro.

WalleGalaxy's post doesn't say the cheaper two will miss out on DC dimming. It just doesn't mention them. If the feature does stay on the M16 phones, it becomes one more thing you'd get only by paying for a Pro or an Ultra, alongside the newer panel itself.

## What would settle it

A second source would help. Samsung's own spec sheet would end the question, and Samsung hasn't published one for any S27 model.

The S27 lineup isn't expected for months, and nothing in this report puts a date on it.
