> Galaxy Watch 4 and newer, the Galaxy Fit 3 and the Galaxy Ring get the shorter start this month, and Running Coach adds Strava routes.

Samsung's Sleep Coaching used to make you earn it. The Samsung Health app wanted a full week of sleep data, seven nights in a row within a month, before it would build you a plan. Now it needs three.

Samsung's update, reported by Engadget on Wednesday, lets anyone with a Galaxy Watch 4 or later, a Galaxy Fit 3 or a Galaxy Ring start coaching with three days of sleep data from the past two weeks.

The app first asks how regular your sleep is, how often it gets interrupted, how much alcohol and caffeine you have, and how happy you are with the sleep you're getting. From those answers and the three nights of data, it gives you a Sleep Animal symbol that stands for your sleep pattern and builds a coaching program of four to eight weeks around your goals.

Each week's advice shifts as your sleep changes, and the app keeps asking how satisfied you were with the night. You also get a daily checklist of habits. The tips are simple, like putting the screen away and skipping caffeine before bed, or stretching outside after you wake up. Samsung says they're based on behavioral sleep science, the study of how daily habits shape sleep.

Reports now include a five-sided Sleep Balance chart. Its corners are sleep time, how regular your sleep is, how long you lie awake at night, how satisfied you feel, and an Energy Score, and the shape shows at a glance which of the five needs work. Every morning a short message looks back at the night before and adds a tip.

Running Coach changes in the same update. It goes from 10 levels to 12, which Samsung says gives intermediate and advanced runners higher targets to chase. "Users can import their favorite Strava Routes for running, trail running, and cycling directly into Samsung Health," the company said, so a route you saved in Strava (the popular running and cycling app) no longer has to be rebuilt by hand. Sharing milestones, personal records and the best parts of a route to social media gets easier too.

Samsung starts rolling all of this out this month. If you own a Galaxy Watch 4 or newer, a Galaxy Fit 3 or a Galaxy Ring and never managed seven straight nights of tracking, three nights in the next two weeks will be enough to start a plan once the update reaches your phone.
