> The $1,999 foldable shoots like an iPhone 17, with no telephoto lens and 2x optical-quality zoom, and unlocks with Touch ID instead of Face ID.

The $1,999 [iPhone Duo](https://idevice.com/phones/iphone-fold/roadmap) uses [basically the same camera as the regular iPhone 17](https://www.macrumors.com/guide/iphone-duo-camera/), not the 17 Pro. You get a 48MP main camera and a 48MP ultra wide, but no telephoto lens, so zoom tops out at 2x optical quality and goes digital up to 10x. It also skips spatial photos and ProRAW, and the outer selfie camera is 12MP rather than 18MP. The fold does help in one way: the phone stands up on its own half-open, so you can shoot selfies with the better rear camera and use the outer screen as a viewfinder.

The other tradeoffs come from how thin it is. There's [no Face ID](https://appleinsider.com/articles/26/09/16/what-iphone-duo-doesnt-have-and-what-compensates-for-those-losses), so you unlock it with Touch ID, or automatically if you're wearing an Apple Watch. MagSafe still works, but existing wallets and batteries were made for a longer iPhone, so most will attach with the bottom sticking out. The inner screen's top layer is nano-textured plastic over two sheets of glass, and like every foldable it will develop a crease over time. The video side, including 4K at 120 fps, is in [our earlier look at the Duo's cameras](https://idevice.com/apple-hasnt-said-the-foldable-iphone-can-shoot-spatial-video). Pre-orders open October 16.
