> Samsung is putting a new M2700 5G modem in the Exynos versions of the Galaxy S27 and S27+, The Elec reports. It's faster and uses less power than the S26's modem, which matters most for battery life on mobile data.

The Exynos versions of the [Galaxy S27](https://idevice.com/phones/galaxy-s/roadmap) and S27+ get a new 5G modem called the M2700. Korea's The Elec reported it, [as SamMobile relays it](https://www.sammobile.com/news/galaxy-s27-plus-exynos-m2700-modem-more-power-efficient/), and the modem is faster than the one in the S26 while using less power.

Samsung's Exynos processors have closed most of the gap with MediaTek and Snapdragon on speed and efficiency over the years. Their modems haven't. They still burn more power than the ones paired with those rival chips, and you pay for that in battery whenever the phone is on cellular instead of Wi-Fi.

The M2700 is made on the same 4nm process as the Shannon 5410 in the [Galaxy S26](https://idevice.com/phones/galaxy-s/roadmap/s26), so the savings come from the design rather than a smaller chip node. It's 4% smaller, moves data faster and draws less power. It also steps up to the newer 3GPP Release 18 cellular standard from Release 17, and it gets better satellite connectivity. Samsung's phone division has already tested it internally, and The Elec says the results came back highly favorable.

Nobody has put a number on the battery savings yet.

Samsung is also retiring the Shannon brand and moving its modems to an "M series," and the one after the M2700 is the M2800. It's built on Samsung's 2nm process and is meant for the Galaxy S28 phones in 2028. The report expects that move to a smaller process to bring a much bigger cut in power use, which would mean longer battery life whenever an S28 is away from home or office Wi-Fi. So if modem drain is the thing that has kept you off an Exynos Galaxy, the S28 is the bigger step and the S27 is the first one.

Earlier this month The Elec reported that the Exynos 2700 is going into the S27, the S27+ and the new S27 Pro sold in Korea and Europe, and that Samsung hadn't picked a chip for the Ultra. This report names the M2700 only for the S27 and S27+, and says nothing about the Pro.

If you buy your Galaxy in Korea or Europe, this goes straight at the Exynos model's oldest complaint. Samsung hasn't said anything about the M2700 itself. When reviews of the Exynos S27 arrive, look at battery life on mobile data rather than on Wi-Fi. That's where this modem has to prove itself.
