> One tipster says Samsung and Corning are working on a coating that recovers from micro-scratches. Neither company has announced anything.

The claim comes from @phonefuturist, a tipster who also goes by Schrodinger, who posted that Samsung and Corning are working on a self-healing surface coating for the next generation of Gorilla Armor. The target is the Galaxy S27 Ultra, and the goal described is recovery from everyday micro-scratching rather than glass that is simply harder. Per [Android Headlines](https://www.androidheadlines.com/2026/08/galaxy-s27-ultra-could-get-a-display-that-heals-its-own-scratches.html), the same post floats Samsung switching the term from scratch resistance to scratch recovery. Neither Samsung nor Corning has announced anything resembling this technology.

LG tried a self-healing surface on the G Flex back in 2013, and only on the back cover rather than the glass. Gorilla Armor arrived with the Galaxy S24 Ultra, Gorilla Armor 2 is on the S25 and [S26 Ultra](https://idevice.com/phones/galaxy-s/roadmap/s26-ultra), and Corning puts its own testing at more than four times the scratch resistance of competing lithium-aluminosilicate cover glass, figures [SammyGuru](https://sammyguru.com/galaxy-s27-ultra-self-healing-glass-rumor/) laid out alongside the rumour. All of it is about stopping a scratch from happening in the first place. The S27 Ultra is tipped for the first quarter of 2027, which leaves a year and a half for a coating nobody has demonstrated to fall out of the plan.
