> Samsung says the Galaxy Ring will be the first FDA-cleared smart ring for sleep apnea risk this fall, catching up to its own watches rather than breaking new ground.

Samsung says the [Galaxy Ring](https://idevice.com/smart-rings/samsung-galaxy-ring/roadmap/galaxy-ring) will add sleep apnea risk detection this fall, and that when it lands it will be the first smart ring cleared by the FDA to do it. The announcement came from Sharanya Desai, Samsung's digital health lead, during the Galaxy Watch 9 segment at Unpacked in London rather than in anything ring-shaped of its own, and [SamMobile](https://www.sammobile.com/news/galaxy-ring-is-the-first-smart-ring-to-offer-fda-cleared-sleep-apnea-detection/) reports there is still no date beyond the season.

The clearance covers risk, not diagnosis. "The ring is meant to flag possible risk, not diagnose sleep apnea; users should see a doctor for confirmation." Samsung's watches have had the same feature through Samsung Health Monitor for a while, so the ring is catching up to its own lineup, [as Android Headlines points out](https://www.androidheadlines.com/2026/07/the-galaxy-ring-gets-a-leg-up-on-rivals-with-sleep-apnea-fda-approval.html). What is new is the finger, and that no rival ring carries the badge.
