> Ring Air and Ring Pro owners can now run a 60-second heart rhythm scan from the Ultrahuman app, built with FibriCheck. It's limited to supported markets in the UK, Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific.

Ultrahuman has added Heart Scan, a heart rhythm check that Ring Air and Ring Pro owners can run whenever they want, Engadget's Daniel Cooper reported on October 7. The company built it with FibriCheck, an app that uses a phone's camera to run an optical test.

Ultrahuman's existing atrial fibrillation add-on watches for an irregular heart rhythm, known as Afib, while the wearer sleeps. Heart Scan covers the rest of the day. The sleep add-on watches by itself, while the scan only runs when the owner starts it. Ultrahuman says owners can now get a spot check whenever "something feels off." They open the Ultrahuman app, start a dedicated scan and sit still for 60 seconds while FibriCheck's algorithm analyzes the data.

The result comes back as a PDF the owner can hand to a doctor. It includes the recording of what actually happened, so a clinician isn't working from a summary alone.

Heart Scan is folded into the existing Afib Power Plug, so anyone already paying for that won't pay more. The report doesn't give a price for new buyers.

It's only available in supported markets across the UK, Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific. The US isn't among the regions named, and the report doesn't say when more markets will be added.

The report describes the scan as a camera test run through the phone, and it doesn't say whether the ring's own sensors play any part. It also doesn't say whether a regulator has cleared the scan for medical use.
