Leaker Kosutami posted four words on X yesterday: "iRing thing under development. What a surprise." A follow-up confirmed the project is intended to compete with Oura Ring and Samsung Galaxy Ring. That's the entirety of what's known.
Kosutami is a prototype collector with a decent -- but not flawless -- track record on hardware internals, accurately calling the iPhone 16 Pro's metal-enclosed battery, iPhone 15's USB-C switch, and Apple killing FineWoven accessories before any official announcement.
The smart ring category has grown fast. Oura commands the most brand recognition, and Samsung entered with the Galaxy Ring last year. A ring trades the Apple Watch's screen for a smaller, screenless sensor package you wear like jewelry. Similar to the reported AI pendant it's working on.
Eddy Cue took over Apple's Health division late last year and has reportedly pushed for more aggressive health products. A ring fits that direction, but Apple first needs to get its Glasses out the door.
