Privacy Policy

iDevice.com is published by iDevice Media LLC, a New Mexico limited liability company (“iDevice,” “we,” or “us”), an independent editorial publication covering phones, wearables, and fitness tech. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit iDevice.com, how we use it, and what choices you have.

Information we collect

Usage data. We use Google Analytics (GA4), Plausible Analytics, and our own first-party analytics to understand how readers find and engage with our content. Our first-party analytics records page visits, referrers, coarse network and browser information, visit sessions, and an anonymous random browser ID so we can measure whether a browser returns over time. The anonymous browser ID is not derived from your IP address or device fingerprint and is not connected to your name, email address, account, newsletter subscription, purchase, or other identity data. You can opt out by visiting any iDevice page with?notrack=1 in the URL, which sets an opt-out preference in your browser and disables analytics. You can also use Google's Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Approximate location and weather. Our network provider, Cloudflare, works out an approximate place from your network address, down to the country, state or province, and city. Our first-party analytics records that country, state or province, and city with each page visit. We do not store your IP address, your exact location, a postal code or coordinates. (The one exception is a request made to our MCP server or A2A endpoint, described below.) When a page shows local weather, or when we record what the weather was at the time of a visit, we round your approximate position to an area of about three miles (5 km), ask a weather service for the current conditions there, keep only the weather and temperature, and discard the position. The weather service receives only that rounded position, with nothing that identifies you. Opting out as described above stops all of this from being recorded.

Organisation lookup. For page visits that look like a person, our server sends your network address to ipapi.is, which tells us which organisation operates that network (for example a company, a university or an internet provider) and whether it is a hosting, VPN, proxy, Tor or mobile network, or one flagged for abuse or automated crawling. It also tells us the time zone of the network's location. We keep only those labels with the visit: the name and type of the organisation that owns the network, the flags, and that time zone. We never keep your IP address, the network's address range, coordinates or a postal code, and ipapi.is processes the address on our behalf under its data processing terms. Opting out with ?notrack=1 stops this too.

Contact submissions. If you send us a message through our contact form, we collect your name, email address, and message content. We use this solely to respond to your inquiry.

Email subscriptions. If you subscribe to our newsletter or sign up for topic-specific alerts (such as roadmap updates, product news, or story follow alerts), we collect your email address and your topic preferences. We use this solely to send you the updates you requested. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in any email we send, or through your subscription preferences page.

Push notifications. If you click “Notify me” on a roadmap page, we request your browser's push notification permission. If granted, your browser generates a push subscription token which is stored on our servers and used solely to send you updates about that product. You can revoke this permission at any time in your browser settings.

Cookies and local storage. We use first-party cookies for a rolling 30-minute visit session, a seen-before indicator, and a random anonymous browser ID used for retention analytics. The anonymous browser ID has a rolling 12-month lifetime. We also use browser local storage for lightweight preferences such as your analytics opt-out choice. We do not use these identifiers for advertising and do not use browser fingerprinting to recreate an identifier after cookies are cleared.

Accounts (My iDevice)

You can sign in with a one-time code we email you, or with Google when that option is shown. There is no password. A My iDevice account keeps:

• your email address;
• the devices you add, such as the phone or watch you use;
• the products you save or follow;
• the emails you asked for: an email when it is a good time to buy something you are watching, important news about products you follow, and the newsletter if you turn it on.

When comments and member profiles open, your account will also keep the comments you post and your profile, but only if you choose to make them. Until then, there are none.

We do not keep a name, photo, password, IP address or browser details with your account. If you sign in with Google, we keep only the Google account number that links it to your email. Signing in sets one secure, httpOnly cookie that keeps you signed in for 90 days. To stop abuse, we count requests for sign-in codes using a scrambled form of your email and network address, and delete those counts after a day. If you use Ask iDevice while signed in, we count how many questions you ask each day so the daily limit works, and delete those counts after a week. If you use Ask iDevice without signing in, we count your questions each day using a scrambled form of your network address, which changes every day, and a browser cookie, and delete those counts after a week. We never keep the address itself. Devices you pick without signing in stay in your browser's local storage until you sign in.

Removing it. You can delete your account at any time from the account menu at the top of any page, or on the Settings page of My iDevice. That deletes your account, your sign-in and the devices you added straight away. Price alerts, Guide emails and the newsletter are separate subscriptions tied to your email address, so deleting your account does not stop them. Stop each one on the Emails page of My iDevice before you delete your account, or with the stop link in any of those emails.

MCP server and A2A agent endpoint

This section applies only to requests made to iDevice's public MCP server (idevice.com/api/mcp) and A2A agent endpoint (idevice.com/api/a2a). Software and AI agents call these on someone's behalf. It does not apply to people reading idevice.com, which the other sections of this policy cover.

MCP requests. For each request we keep the IP address it came from, the approximate location and network owner derived from that address (country, region, city and network), the tool called, the product, category or search words that were sent (with anything that looks like an email address, phone number, link or personal detail removed), the name and version of the client software, whether the call worked, how long it took, and a one-line summary of the result.

A2A messages. For each message we keep the message, our reply, the time, the IP address it came from, and the approximate location and network owner derived from that address. Replies on the A2A endpoint are written by an AI agent run by iDevice and are labelled as AI-generated.

We keep MCP records for 12 months and then delete them. We keep an A2A conversation, with the IP address and location of each message in it, until 12 months after its last message, and then delete it. We use them to run and protect the service, enforce usage limits, and understand which agents and platforms use it. We do not sell them or use them for advertising. These requests set no cookies and use no browser storage. Requests from AI platforms usually come from the platform's own servers, so the location and network describe that platform, not a person.

How we use your information

We use collected information exclusively to operate and improve iDevice — to understand what content resonates, measure first-time and returning readership, improve site navigation, respond to reader messages, understand roughly where readers are and what the weather was like when they visited, deliver newsletters and push notifications, and remember your preferences. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their marketing purposes.

Third-party services

iDevice uses a small number of third-party services to operate:

• Google Analytics (GA4) — traffic analytics
• Plausible Analytics — privacy-focused traffic analytics
• Resend — transactional email delivery for contact form responses and subscriber notifications
• Cloudflare — content delivery and security, and the approximate location described above
• Open-Meteo — current weather for a rounded area, with no identifying information
• ipapi.is, which identifies the organisation that operates a visitor's network from the network address, without storing it for us
• Railway — hosting and infrastructure

Each of these services operates under its own privacy policy.

Data retention

Your My iDevice account and the devices you add are kept until you delete your account. Contact form submissions are retained for up to 12 months and then deleted. Newsletter subscriber data is retained until you unsubscribe. Push notification subscriptions are retained until you revoke browser permission or request removal. Our first-party anonymous browser identifier has a rolling 12-month cookie lifetime, and server-side browser-to-visit identity mappings older than 12 months are deleted. Google Analytics data is governed by Google's configured retention settings. MCP records are kept for 12 months, and an A2A conversation until 12 months after its last message, as described above.

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you. If you are in the European Economic Area, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Children

iDevice is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our practices evolve. Material changes will be noted at the top of this page with a revised date. Continued use of iDevice after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
