Methodology

We do the homework. You see it.

iDevice is a buyer’s guide for glasses, watches, rings, earbuds, headsets and phones. We look up the specs, compare every model and show where each fact came from.

1 · Specs

Every spec has a source.

We look up each spec on the maker’s own pages first.

Each fact links to its source and shows the exact words.

See the small link icon next to a spec? Tap it. It shows where the fact came from and when we checked it.

2 · Past, now, next

Every model, side by side.

Each Guide follows one product line over time: when each model came out, what it cost, and what changed.

  1. Before

    Last model

    • Release date
    • Launch price
    • What it had
  2. Now

    Current model

    • Full specs
    • Price today
    • What changed
  3. Next

    Upcoming model

    • What was reported
    • When it may come
    • How it turned out
3 · Prices

Real prices, and when to buy.

We show the maker’s own price, and store prices we check over time.

We show the price history, so you can see if today’s price is a good one.

Our advice uses the price and whether a new model is coming. No price, no advice.

How prices work
  • Buy nowThe price is already very good.
  • WaitA new model is close.
  • No rushNothing is pushing you either way.
4 · Works with

Will it work with your stuff?

Add the devices you own with a free iD, and every Guide shows what works with them.

We check the maker’s own answer first.

If the maker says nothing, we may use what owners report. Those answers are marked Unofficial.

  • WorksWorks with iPhone. From the maker.
  • UnofficialOwners say it works with Android.
5 · Ask iDevice

Ask a question. Get a sourced answer.

Most Guides have a box where you can ask a question about the product.

It answers from our own research on that product, and it links the source so you can check it.

Is it waterproof?

Yes, up to 50 m. Maker’s spec page

6 · Upcoming products

We keep track of what was said.

Before a launch, we save each report and who made it first. After the launch, we check it against what shipped. So you can see how the story changed.

Reported
  • Right

    It shipped as reported.

  • Partly right

    Some of it held up.

  • Wrong

    It did not happen.

  • Confirmed

    The company said so itself.

7 · Reviews

How we score our reviews.

We live with the product, side by side with the one it competes with. Makers never see a review before it's published. Our score stands on its own, and it also counts as one score in the review consensus on product cards.

  • 5

Best in class, with no real trade-off.

  • 4.5

We'd pick it over the category leader. One clear trade-off.

  • 4

Strong, but there's a rival we'd often pick instead.

  • 3

Fine, but there are better options.

  • 2 or below

    Avoid it.

8 · Independence

No one pays for our advice.

iDevice is independently owned and funded.

Sponsored content always says so.

A sponsor can never change a verdict, a comparison or a grade.

Read our editorial policy
Where do your specs come from?

The maker's own pages first. Each checked spec keeps its source, and a small link icon beside it shows where it came from.

Do sponsors change your advice?

No. Sponsored content is always labelled, and a sponsor can never change a verdict, a comparison or a grade.

What does Reported mean?

Someone reported it before launch. After launch we grade it Right, Partly right or Wrong. Confirmed means the company said so itself.

How do I report a mistake?

Use the contact form at idevice.com/contact with the page link and a source if you have one.
