The iRacing Connect app for Vision Pro launched May 11 using NVIDIA CloudXR 6.0, a system that runs the game on your Windows PC and wirelessly sends the video to the headset. Vision Pro's cameras track your physical steering wheel and line it up with the one in the game, so your hands stay visible and correctly placed the whole time. The sim racing launch is one of several niche professional uses Vision Pro has found in the past year, from operating rooms to the set of a Star Wars film.

Vision Pro found its job. It's in the operating room.

Dr. Eric Rosenberg of SightMD has used Vision Pro paired with his ScopeXR platform for hundreds of cataract surgeries since October 2025, and Sharp HealthCare just launched the first IRB-approved clinical trial of Vision Pro in eye microsurgery using a separate platform called ClearSphere. The consumer headset is finding the market it was never designed for, and at $3,499 it is the cheapest piece of equipment in the operating room.

Google rolled out system update I610UEU2AZD8 for the Samsung Galaxy XR on May 6, fixing a memory leak introduced in an April software update that had crippled performance with frame rate drops, tracking failures, and thermal throttling. Early reports say the patch is working, though some Virtual Desktop users are now reporting a new cursor rendering glitch. The Galaxy XR is the first headset on Google's Android XR platform.

DirecTV launched on Meta Quest in late April 2026 with a free tier of 150-plus ad-supported channels and full paid packages including live sports, making it the first virtual MVPD on any consumer VR platform. Netflix and YouTube TV still aren't on Quest, which means DirecTV got there first by deciding a VR headset was a real distribution surface worth building for.
