Apple has two AirPods projects running against each other and the one nobody was tracking is closer to shipping. B790 has turned up in iOS 27 code and sits on Apple's internal road map for a launch as early as this year, while the camera model B798 slipped to 2027. Mark Gurman, in Power On: "But Apple has also been developing another version under the code name B790 (Apple famously creates competing versions of the same product internally)." Developer Sam Henri Gold found the same codename in the second iOS 27 beta last month.
Gurman gave a codename and a timeline and no feature at all. He did not say what separates B790 from the more advanced B798, or whether Apple will ship both. The earliest window anyone has put on it is September, alongside the iPhones.
