Apple Watch Series 12

Audio Intelligence skips the EU at launch

The watch that listens all day needs a paired iPhone, holds to daily limits Apple will not state, and arrives in beta.

Ask about the Apple Watch Series 12

Apple hasn't posted a support article for Live Rewind, so what is known about it comes from the Series 12 product page and the press release. Double-press the Digital Crown and the last 15 seconds of the conversation come back as a text snippet. The audio behind that snippet never leaves a dedicated compartment on the chip. "This is because the S11 chip on Apple Watch Series 12 includes Secure Exclave, a dedicated hardware-isolated compartment that processes audio in complete isolation from the rest of the system, then immediately deletes it," Apple said.

The Mac Observer found the shipping conditions on the same pages: beta in late 2026, a paired iPhone running Apple Intelligence, and daily usage limits Apple has not published. Sound Recognition, the alert half of Audio Intelligence, is not initially available in the EU. The Ultra 4 gets the same features and the same Secure Exclave. The screens may look different once watchOS 27 ships on September 14, and what Audio Intelligence actually does we covered on announcement day.

Update, Sep 10, 3:41 PM CT: The Mac Observer reported Sound Recognition is locked to the two new watches, so watchOS 27 never brings it to an older one.
