Samsung's Galaxy Ring will flag signs of sleep apnea this fall, cleared by the FDA on July 20. Sleep apnea is your breathing stopping and restarting through the night, and the ring watches for it over two nights inside a ten-day window, then sorts what it finds into three levels. Samsung digital health lead Sharanya Desai, on the Unpacked stage: "Starting this year, Galaxy Ring will become the first and only FDA-cleared, over-the-counter ring device for sleep apnea risk detection". It will not diagnose you, and Samsung says so itself.

Oura's Ring 5 already tracks breathing disturbances in your sleep and carries no FDA clearance for it, and RingConn's Gen 2 advertises sleep apnea monitoring without mentioning any approval. Apple got the Apple Watch cleared for the same thing in September 2024. Samsung showed no Galaxy Ring 2 at Unpacked, so a software update is the ring's upgrade this year.
