ROG XREAL R1 gaming glasses review 240Hz micro OLED limits

Asus ROG Xreal R1's micro-OLED survived 10,000 miles but the software didn't.

The Short Version

ROG XREAL R1 glasses offer dual 1920×1080 micro OLED panels and 240 Hz refresh rate but struggle with text and productivity tasks.

At 91 grams and 240 Hz, the ROG XREAL R1 is built for one thing: making a handheld gaming console feel like a big screen in your pocket. Two 1920×1080 micro OLED panels, which are tiny high-contrast displays built directly into the lenses, deliver sharp fast motion. But the narrow field of view and poor text legibility mean the moment you open a spreadsheet or a browser, the glasses fall apart. ASUS drew a hard line between gaming and everything else, and productivity landed on the wrong side of it.
