Zepp Health is building live location sharing into Amazfit watches. The feature is called LiveShare. Gadgets & Wearables reported it on September 3, and the shape of it is simple. You head out for a run or a ride, someone else gets a link, and they can follow where you are without messaging you for updates.

You pick who to share with, a link is created for that workout, and email is one of the ways to send it. The link stays valid for up to 24 hours. LiveShare also keeps track of whether sharing is actually working, which is the sort of detail that only turns up in software somebody has already taken outdoors.

Zepp Health is working on having LiveShare start when a GPS workout starts, so it fires on its own once it has been configured rather than being set up from scratch every time you leave the house. Anyone who has remembered a safety feature ten minutes into a ride knows why that is worth building.

The Amazfit T-Rex 3 Pro is the first watch tied directly to the feature. That doesn't make it exclusive, and the T-Rex 3 Pro is the logical place to begin. It already carries dual-band GPS, offline maps and navigation, and it is aimed at the people who go furthest from a road.

What the report does not settle is how much rides along with the location. Live tracking is a safety net for a solo runner. It becomes something else if pace, distance and heart rate travel with the link, because then a coach at the finish or a partner following a long ride is watching the workout rather than a moving dot. The report covers location, the sharing controls and the 24-hour window, and says nothing about workout metrics.

There is no release date, no list of which other watches get it, and no word on whether the watch needs a phone in your pocket to keep reporting.

LiveTrack has been a Garmin feature for years, and it is the obvious comparison for what LiveShare does. Amazfit is arriving at it from the other direction. The hardware went first, with dual-band GPS, offline maps and a navigation stack in the T-Rex 3 Pro, and the sharing layer is being built on top of a watch that already knows where it is.

Zepp Health has not said when any of this ships. The one thing it has attached the feature to is the watch it built for people who go a long way out.
