What we’re expecting
Cameras on everyday devices raise obvious privacy concerns. Apple is expected to address that with a dedicated LED on each AirPod that lights up whenever the visual sensors are active. The goal is simple: make it obvious when the cameras are being used instead of leaving people to guess.
AirPods Ultra are expected to include a small external LED on each earbud that illuminates whenever the infrared cameras are actively providing visual information. The indicator would give people nearby a clear visual signal that the sensors are in use, helping address one of the biggest concerns surrounding wearable cameras. Apple has consistently emphasized visible privacy indicators across its products, including camera and microphone indicators in iOS. Bringing that same approach to AirPods Ultra would make it easier for bystanders to recognize when the earbuds are using their visual sensors for Apple Intelligence. Apple has not confirmed the feature, and it remains unclear whether the LEDs would activate only during Visual Intelligence requests or whenever the cameras are continuously processing the surrounding environment.
Does AirPods Ultra have a recording indicator light vs others?
Only AirPods Ultra (Yes, lights when cameras active).
