Google's next Fitbit has a screen, a seven-day battery and a name: the Fitbit Edge. Android Headlines obtained exclusive images of the band and reports that it looks set to replace the Fitbit Charge, which Google hasn't updated since 2023.

The device turned up earlier in Google's own promo images for the Pixel 11 launch in August, where it looked like a Pixel Watch 5 with an oval display instead of a round one.

The specs Android Headlines lists are the ones a Charge owner would expect. The Edge gets notifications, GPS, an altimeter for elevation and automatic activity recognition. It runs a small set of apps, including Google Maps, YouTube Music and Find My Phone. Battery life is up to seven days, the same sort of figure as the screenless Fitbit Air, and it works with both Android and iOS. The Pixel Watch 5 does neither of those things: its battery is shorter and it only pairs with Android.

That puts it between two Google products that already exist. The Fitbit Air is the $99 band with no screen. The Pixel Watch 5 is the full smartwatch. The Edge is a fitness tracker with a display and not much else to distract you, and the notifications won't be as useful as they are on the Pixel Watch.

Black, green and orange are the three colors in the images, and they line up with the Obsidian, Olive and Canyon finishes on the Pixel 11 Pro. The green one has a muted two-tone frame, and the orange one has a brighter gold frame. There's a long button on each side and a set of sensors on the back. The sensor array looks closer to the Fitbit Air's than to the Pixel Watch 5's, and it may carry more sensors than the Air does. Pinch latches on the back release the band, which is different from the Pixel Watch because the case is a different shape.

One thing the images don't show is a Stephen Curry edition. Google has already made Curry versions of both the Fitbit Air and the Pixel Watch 5 this year, and the writer wouldn't rule one out here.

Android Headlines expects an October launch, since anything later would miss the holiday shelves, and guesses $149 to $199. Past Charge models sold for $129 to $179. Neither the date nor the price comes from a leak.

If you're deciding between the Air and a Pixel Watch 5 right now, the Edge is the reason to wait a few weeks. It's the one that would give you a screen without giving up the week of battery.
