The pendant is reported to be built for the iOS 27 Siri rebuild, a full LLM-powered overhaul that would give Siri the contextual intelligence to act on camera input. Without the new Siri, the hardware is just a sensor.
Apple's plan for iOS 27 is to rebuild Siri from the ground up into a full conversational AI, the kind that can actually hold a back-and-forth, not just set timers and read weather. Right now Siri is embarrassingly behind ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, and Apple knows it. If the overhaul lands, it also answers the biggest question about any Apple AI pendant: a wearable with no screen lives or dies by how smart its voice assistant is.
