Samsung used Unpacked in London to introduce the Galaxy Watch 9 and Watch Ultra 2, and the health headline is Vitals, which watches for the moment your body starts behaving unlike itself. It reads resting heart rate, heart rate variability, skin temperature and sleep against your own baseline, and tells you when enough of them drift at once. The Watch 9 opened for pre-order on 22 July and ships on 7 August.
Oura has flagged illness from the same readings for years, as Mashable notes: "Oura Ring users will find a familiar feature on the new Samsung Galaxy Watches". Samsung's contribution is the combination and the reach, on a wrist far more people already wear. Whether five readings taken together beat one taken well is something a launch keynote cannot answer.
