Meta holds its Connect keynote on Wednesday, September 23, at 4 p.m. PT. The glasses it is expected to show have no camera at all: PCMag reports the frames are codenamed Luna and use six microphones to run Meta AI instead. We covered the first reports of those glasses last week. A mixed reality headset codenamed Phoenix is also rumored, and Meta has confirmed neither.
The camera-free pair lands after a rough year for Meta's current glasses. People modified them to disable the recording light and film others without warning, and Meta answered with firmware that stops recording if the light is damaged, disabled, or blocked. Meta has sold more smart glasses than anyone, so it carries most of the blame for the category. IDC analyst Ramon Llamos told Tom's Guide that "Meta is treading a fine line between those who abuse their glasses and those who do not."
