Garmin's latest software update lets the Venu 4 keep fall detection switched on all day. Until now, Garmin watches could only watch for falls during certain outdoor activities. When the watch detects a fall, it sends your live location to the emergency contacts you chose, and it has to be paired with your phone for that message to go through. You can still limit it to specific activities if you'd rather. The update is version 17.25 on the Venu 4, and Android Authority reported that the rollout has started but could take a few weeks to reach every watch.
The same update adds hands-free voice control. Say “OK Garmin” to start an activity or a timer, or to reach the assistant on your paired phone. Runners get two features that used to be limited to the Forerunner 70 and 170: Quick Workout, which suggests a run from the time and intensity you enter, and new Run Coach plans. Both now reach the Venu 4, the Vivoactive 6 and the Fenix 8 series. If your watch hasn't updated yet, you can check for it in the Garmin Connect app.
