An iPhone app called Antizuck Smart Glasses Scanner reached number three on the United States paid App Store chart. It claims to detect and alert you when Meta AI glasses are being worn near you, and it costs $3. 9to5Mac, which spotted it, is careful about what it will vouch for: "We haven't tested the app to verify if it works", and it notes that even a working detector leaves you with the question of what you are supposed to do next.
Take the app at its worst and the chart position still means something. New paid apps almost never break the top three, and camera glasses are already visible to anyone who looks at a face. So the money is not buying detection so much as reassurance, from people who have decided they would rather be told. That is the same week Instagram banned filming strangers with the glasses and stickers turned up that defeat the recording light.
