Meta adds auto-disable-camera response to the LED-tampering controversy
Meta said in a blog post that its glasses will now disable the camera if the recording indicator LED is detected as physically tampered with or destroyed, extending an existing safeguard that previously only blocked the camera while the light was covered. The change starts with Meta's second-generation glasses onward. Meta also said it is removing marketplace listings for LED-tampering mod services and pursuing legal action against sellers.About this sourceSource linkedYou can read the source. Meta reportedly testing an always-on ‘super sensing’ AI mode with no recording light
The Financial Times reported Meta is testing a prototype of ‘super sensing’ AI glasses that would “continuously record audio while taking photos every few seconds”, letting a wearer ask the AI what it saw or heard. One proposed system would not store the raw footage and audio at all: metadata would be extracted from it and uploaded for Meta’s AI to query. Meta is also discussing whether that data could train its models, and the features could reach existing glasses through a software update. Executives are planning not to light the LED while super sensing is active, though the FT notes those plans could still change. The FT names no prototype — the codenames Aperol and Bellini come from The Information’s May 2025 report, and Meta’s May 2026 internal memo lists a separate ‘SSG’ prototype, so which device this is remains unresolved.About this sourceSource linkedYou can read the source. After backlash, Meta pauses the Conversation Focus rate limit
Three weeks after quietly capping Conversation Focus at three hours a month, Meta paused the plan. Spokesperson Tyler Yee said “we heard the feedback so we’re pausing its subscription tests for now,” adding that the feature “will remain available for free through our Early Access Program for early testers while we work on a better approach.” The company did not rule out charging later, saying some premium features will be subscription-based over time. The cap had drawn criticism because the feature runs on-device, so it costs Meta nothing to serve, and is used by people who are hard of hearing.About this sourceSource linkedYou can read the source. About Meta
Meta builds Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta smart glasses with EssilorLuxottica, along with the Quest line of mixed reality headsets.
We read store prices every day and keep every read. The price shown is the newest read from the retailer named.
A read older than 36 hours is never shown as the current price. It reads "last seen" and carries no buy link.
“30-day low” is the lowest of our own reads for this product in the last 30 days, not a retailer’s claim. We print the number of reads beside it, and we say nothing about a low until a product has a week of reads.
“Lowest known”, where it appears, is older price history from published reports and imports. It is shown only when it is lower than the 30-day low, and it is not counted as reads.
Our advice comes from the price, the price history and whether a newer model is coming. It never depends on who pays us.
Meta announced Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3) at Connect and put it on sale the same day, with prices starting at $449.
Should I buy the Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3)?
No reason to wait, and no deal to chase. The Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3) came out Sep 23, 2026, and its best price today is $449 at Meta. For a model this new, iDevice's advice is to buy it if you want it, not to wait for a drop. Price checked Oct. 14, 2026. See the full answer
Does Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 have a display?
No. Gen 3 keeps the camera, speakers and Meta AI without a screen. Meta's glasses with a display are the separate Meta Ray-Ban Display.
What camera does Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 have?
Gen 3 has a 12 MP camera and records 3K Ultra HD video. Meta has not compared it with any phone camera.
How many Ray-Ban Meta glasses has Meta sold?
Meta and EssilorLuxottica have sold more than 10 million AI glasses across the Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta partnership, per an UploadVR report this month.
What are the Scriber and Blayzer model names?
Blayzer Optics and Scriber Optics are Ray-Ban Meta glasses built for prescription lenses. Meta launched them in March 2026 as Gen 2 styles, from $499. Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3), announced in September 2026, comes in Aviator, Zena and Wayfarer styles.
Will Meta Ray-Ban Gen 3 have facial recognition?
Unknown. WIRED and EFF found facial-recognition code inside the Meta AI companion app. It was never exposed to consumers, and Meta removed it four days after the report, following public scrutiny. No facial recognition has shipped on any Ray-Ban Meta product, and Meta has not said whether the feature will return.
What is the difference between Meta Glasses and Ray-Ban Meta?
Two different things share that name. "Meta Glasses Gen 3" is just what people call Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3, the third generation of Meta's glasses made with Ray-Ban. Meta Glasses is also a real separate line (Fury, Adventurer, and Starfire by Kylie Jenner) that launched June 23, 2026 under Meta's own brand without Ray-Ban branding, though EssilorLuxottica still manufactures it. If someone says Meta Glasses Gen 3 they almost always mean the Ray-Ban line.
Is Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 out yet?
Yes. Meta announced Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3) at Connect and it is on sale now, with prices starting at $449.
Is there a new Ray-Ban Meta coming out?
Yes, it is already out. Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3) went on sale at Connect from $449, and Meta also announced Ray-Ban Meta Audio, its first audio glasses.

Yes, it works with an iPhone or an Android phone.

On paper, Alibaba's new glasses beat the Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3) on camera resolution and battery, and they add eye tracking that can confirm Alipay payments. The specs are Alibaba's and haven't been tested yet.
If you want Meta's glasses without a camera on your face, the $349 Audio pair is lighter on the nose and lasts longer than the camera models. Just don't expect its button to answer calls.
You give up photos, video and anything that needs the camera to see. In return the frame is lighter and Meta rates it three hours longer on a charge than Gen 3.
Meta launched the third Ray-Ban Meta at Connect. It costs $449, runs an hour longer at 9 hours, adds Aviator and Zena frames and a six-mic array, and keeps the same 12MP camera.
Meta's FDA-cleared Hearing Enhancement comes to supported Meta Glasses later this year for mild to moderate hearing loss. It costs $149 once or comes with Meta One, with a 30-day free trial.
A leaked setup screen lets you swap Meta AI for Muse and lists navigation, Shazam and Strava as coming. A second find shows a Meta Pay wallet built for the agent.
Meta's biggest glasses event comes after a year of complaints about people being filmed in secret, and a camera-free pair looks like its clearest answer. None of it is official until the keynote.
The Information reports Meta is preparing a pair of smart glasses with no camera, codenamed Luna, possibly unveiled at Connect next week with shipments targeted for October. It keeps six microphones, speakers and a side button for Meta AI.
ZuckOff listens for the Bluetooth broadcasts of Ray-Ban Meta, Oakley Meta and Snap Spectacles and flags a pair in the room. WIRED reports it can't tell whether they are recording.
A proposed class action says Meta's dormant NameTag feature could match faces seen through its glasses against Facebook and Instagram photos, citing Meta's own patents.
Zuckoff reads the Bluetooth signals smart glasses broadcast and estimates how close a pair is. Its developer wants glasses makers to adopt the kind of alert phones already give for stray trackers.
The bans arriving on both sides of the Atlantic are written about carrying the glasses, not about switching them on. Meta's recording light has no answer to that.
