What to know

What to know

Apple has tested smart glasses with cameras that can recognize objects and places but cannot take photos or video, according to a July 2026 report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

The report said Apple has also tested a version with no camera at all. Gurman still expects the glasses Apple sells to have cameras that take photos, with a light that shows when they are recording.

Apple has not announced the glasses or decided which camera setup it will ship.

Frequently asked

Frequently asked

Do the cameras take photos?
Apple has prototyped cameras that read objects and places while blocking photo and video capture, and has also tested a version with no camera. The shipping design is still expected to carry cameras with a visible recording indicator.
Why build a camera that cannot record?
It separates the two things a camera does. Understanding a scene needs the sensor; recording other people is what makes glasses socially difficult.
