Leaker kro said on X there is no active evidence Samsung plans to bring Polar ID, or any dedicated hardware face unlock, to the Galaxy S27 Ultra, Android Headlines reported. Two other tipsters, @phonefuturist and @SPYGO19726, filled in where the rumor started: Samsung’s System LSI division, the team that designs its semiconductors and image sensors, ran internal tests with Metalenz optics and polarization technology with the S27 Ultra in mind. Those tests happened last year and were purely experimental.

The story began with references to a polarization authentication system in early Samsung test firmware, and SammyGuru set out the rest of the case for it: Metalenz has worked with Samsung’s ISOCELL Vizion sensors, which made a future partnership sound plausible. Samsung’s MX division, the team that actually builds the consumer phones, has not cleared the part for release, and the S27 Ultra is expected to keep the in-display ultrasonic fingerprint reader alongside the ordinary camera-based face unlock. Industry sources have Samsung managing manufacturing costs across the S27 Ultra closely enough to be looking at consolidating telephoto sensors. Metalenz optics sat in a Samsung lab last year. Nobody has shown them reaching a phone.
