Apple announced one new iPhone processor this year and gave it a Pro suffix. The A20 Pro is in the iPhone 18 Pro, the iPhone 18 Pro Max and the iPhone Duo. The Mac Observer went through the 2026 lineup chip by chip and found no A20 without that suffix anywhere in Apple's materials.
That follows from what Apple didn't launch. There is no standard iPhone 18, no iPhone 18e and no iPhone Air 2, so the tier that would normally carry a plain A-series chip doesn't exist this year, and every other phone Apple still sells keeps the silicon it already had. We wrote a week before the event that the fall lineup had nothing under a thousand dollars. The chip ladder is that same fact seen from underneath.
Apple has published no process node figures for any of the older chips, so the 2-nanometer line has nothing to be compared against except the A19 Pro.
All three A20 Pro products get identical silicon on Apple's own listings: a six-core CPU with two performance cores and four efficiency cores, a seven-core GPU, a dual 16-core Neural Engine totalling 32 cores, and hardware-accelerated ray tracing. Apple describes it as its first 2-nanometer chip.
The performance numbers are scattered across product pages rather than attached to the chip. The iPhone 18 Pro page claims a GPU up to 40 percent faster than the A19 Pro, a Neural Engine with double the AI processing power, and 50 percent more memory bandwidth. The iPhone Duo page is where Apple publishes the CPU figure, up to 20 percent faster than the A19 Pro, alongside up to 35 percent better sustained performance than an iPhone 17 Pro.
Fifteen iPhones sit on Apple's Apple Intelligence list, running from the Duo back to the iPhone 15 Pro. iOS 27 reaches further, to the iPhone 11 and the second-generation iPhone SE. Apple has published no process node figures for any of the older chips, so the 2-nanometer line has nothing to be compared against except the A19 Pro.
Every 2026 iPhone with new silicon in it starts at a Pro price. Three phones carry this year's chip, and there is no cheaper way to get it.
