Even Realities won't release a successor to its G2 glasses this year. Will Wang, the company's chief executive, told reporters in Tokyo in July that it would definitely not ship in 2026, and that he couldn't say when in 2027 it would.
Wang said the G1 was built by fewer than 30 people working in a basement, and the G2 by 70 to 80. The group working on the next model is 300 to 400 people. Research on it began well before the G2 launched.
Wang said making the glasses easier to control is one of that team's main jobs. The G2 relies on a ring and voice commands today, which he said are neither enough nor simple. He gave an example in an August interview with Thundervolt: with translation running, a wearer often can't tell if it's working and ends up checking the phone to turn it on.
The next model is very likely to add frame shapes beyond the G2's current two, which come in three colors. It may not be called G3. Wang said Even doesn't know yet, and that the G2 is good enough for now.
A cheaper pair is two to three years away, Wang told Thundervolt, once rising volume brings parts costs down.
