Frequently asked questions
Google Health 5.11 brings Health Guardian to the Fitbit Air, but only with a Health Premium subscription, while Pixel Watch owners get it free. Workouts of 15 minutes now log themselves.
Update Google Health and a Pixel Watch 3 or newer or a Fitbit Air will log a swim or a gym session without you pressing start, as long as your heart rate stays up long enough.
If you use Google Wallet on your wrist, the $124 Charge 6 is the better buy, since the $179 Edge can't pay at all.
The new trends need Google Health Premium. Workout detection also jumps from 10 activities to over 100, which fixes the Air's biggest complaint.
Pre-orders are open now. The Charge 6 replacement gets a bigger screen and a week of battery, but no NFC, so it can't pay for anything.
If you kept the classic Fitbit app to dodge Google Health, that workaround is ending, and badges, the Community Feed and messages don't come with you.
Google's health account posted "Get an Edge on your health" with the date 10.12.26. The leaked Fitbit Edge is a band with a 1.3-inch OLED screen, reported ECG and a price near $180.
The first leaked price puts the Edge about €20 above the Charge 6, and the spec list adds ECG, blood pressure trends and iPhone support.
The filing's screen, GNSS and missing Wi-Fi and cellular fit the leaked Edge, but Google hasn't confirmed the link or the device.
Google Health 5.07.2 has the routes, charts and empty states for all three Health Guardian features. The product page still says coming soon.
The device behind FCC ID SZGG8BL6 has straps, a screen and its own satellite positioning, and it shares a grantee code with the Fitbit Air. Nothing in the filing names Google.
The hardware is unchanged from May's Fitbit Air. What the extra thirty dollars buys is a strap, a colorway and a Pikachu.
A screen-equipped tracker appears in at least two Pixel 11 ads. It is not the Fitbit Air and not the Pixel Watch 5, and Google sells nothing that looks like it.
Distance and heart rate matched across all three trackers. Only the calorie figure split, and Google's help page already carries reports of it.
Google Health 5.05 adds two-way Apple Health syncing, so Fitbit exercise, sleep, vitals and steps can write into the iPhone's health store without a third-party bridge.
Google launched the $99.99 Fitbit Air and renamed the Fitbit app to Google Health. Its new AI health coach will work with Apple Watch data too.
Fitbit Air costs $99 and doesn't lock a single health metric behind a subscription.
Fitbit's AI coach used to invent your workout history. The bar was low, and they cleared it.
Google dropped Fitbit Air's full CAD files, so your next band costs a spool of filament.
Fitbit pulled the screen, kept the AI coaching, and got 8 days of battery out of a $100 band.
