Mark Gurman went through the iPhone Ultra in a video interview on the Tom’s Guide YouTube channel, a week before Apple is expected to show the phone. He put the cover display at 5.5 inches and the inner screen at 7.8 inches, said it will cost at least $2,000, and confirmed MagSafe, which had been one of the open questions. Face ID does not make it, there is no telephoto camera, and he expects the multitasking coming in iOS 27 to land short of what Apple built for the iPad Pro.
On who the phone is for, Gurman called it the "ultimate status symbol" and said people will buy one because they want it rather than because they need it. He also said the crease is not entirely invisible and about on a par with recent Samsung foldables, which is a fair comparison given Apple went to Samsung for the flexible display. Apple’s fix for that crease is two sheets of ultra-thin glass with the panel sandwiched between them. Apple has not announced the phone. It is expected at the Surprise and Shine event on September 9.
