Snap Specs will go on sale this fall for $2,195, and this time anyone can buy a pair rather than only developers. Reviewers tried them at Qualcomm's Snapdragon Summit this week. Two Snapdragon processors, outward cameras and hand tracking all sit inside the frames, so there's no cable or pocket puck. The display covers a 51-degree field of view, and electrochromic lenses can dim from clear to dark.
That standalone design is the main difference from Xreal's Aura, which needs a phone-sized compute puck in your pocket, as Kyle Barr noted for Gizmodo. Snap rates the battery at around four hours of mixed use, about what Xreal claims for Aura. At around 135 grams Specs are heavy, though testers found them surprisingly comfortable. Even the impressed ones weren't sure who will pay $2,195 for them.
