The iPhone 20's screen will still have holes for the Dynamic Island, the pill-shaped cutout at the top of the display that holds the front camera and Face ID hardware. That's according to the leaker Digital Chat Station, per Tom's Guide. If you've been holding out for an iPhone with nothing cutting into the screen, this one may not be it.
Earlier reports about the 20th-anniversary model had Apple hiding the camera and Face ID under the display, so the whole front would look like one unbroken sheet of glass. It was the most exciting version of this phone, and it's the part this leak takes away.
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has put the model at next September, with curved glass wrapping every corner and edge. Digital Chat Station's report is about the holes in the screen and leaves those curves alone, so you should still picture a dramatic new shape. You'd just see a Dynamic Island on the front of it.
Digital Chat Station gave little detail, so it could stay the size it is now or get smaller.
The iPhone Duo already has an under-display FaceTime camera, and the iPhone 18 Pro Max moved Face ID's infrared camera beneath the screen. So Apple can put this hardware under the glass.
The Duo's under-display camera shoots at only 4 megapixels, though, and you wouldn't choose it for selfies. It doesn't hurt much on that phone. The Duo also has a 12MP front camera, and it can take selfies with its rear cameras while you look at the outer screen. The iPhone 20 won't have that backup. Its front camera has to do the whole job, and 4 megapixels wouldn't be enough.
A small cutout costs you a bit of screen. A weak camera would cost you every selfie you take, which makes this a trade plenty of buyers would accept.
Nobody has said how big the cutout will be. Digital Chat Station gave little detail, so it could stay the size it is now or get smaller. He also posted early iPhone 20 Pro display specs in September, with a 6.41-inch screen on the Pro and a 6.96-inch screen on the Pro Max, so a slightly bigger display would sit around that Dynamic Island.
Apple hasn't announced this phone, and next September is still about ten months away, so details can move. For now, expect curved glass with a Dynamic Island on the front. If a screen with no holes at all is the only reason you're waiting for the iPhone 20, don't plan around it. If the new shape is what you want, nothing in this report changes that.
