The Pixel Watch 5 is on sale and its four new health tools are not. Insulin Resistance Trends, Blood Pressure Trends, Breathing Emergency Detection and Sleep Breathing Quality Trends have cleared clinical validation and switch on in September. Breathing Emergency Detection watches your blood oxygen for a dangerous drop and can call emergency services if you stop responding. At launch it works in the EU and other select markets, not the US. Boutayna Chokrane spent her review week unable to test a single one: “I wasn’t able to evaluate Health Guardian during testing, considering many of these features aren't available yet and they require a month of data before establishing meaningful trends.”
Underneath, this is the Pixel Watch 4. Same 41mm and 45mm sizes, same dimensions, same 3,000-nit screen, and Google left the 30 and 40 hour battery ratings untouched. The chip is a Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 Accelerated, 12 percent faster on the processor and carrying more memory, which Google totals as a watch 20 percent quicker than the one before it. Abner Li wore the 41mm for a week: “My year-old 41mm PW4 ends the day with battery life in the 50% to 55% range, while the PW5 is firmly left with about 60% over the past week.” The 41mm now costs $399 and the 45mm $429, fifty and thirty dollars up on last year.
