Samsung is reportedly building two wide Galaxy Z Fold 9 models for 2027 instead of one. Korea's ETNews reported the second wide device in August, and says Samsung is designing it with an inner screen shaped for watching video rather than the 4:3 panel the Fold 8 uses.
The Fold 8 opens to a 7.6-inch screen, with a 5.5-inch display on the outside. Samsung's new foldables drew a record 1.44 million pre-orders in South Korea in seven days. The wide Fold 8 took about 70% of them and outsold the Fold 8 Ultra, which keeps the older book shape. That demand is what reportedly pushed Samsung to a second wide model.
It makes five foldables for next year. The other four were already expected: a Galaxy Z Flip 9, a Fold 9, a Fold 9 Ultra and a second TriFold. Samsung is expected to launch them in the second half of 2027.
Galaxy Club listed the fifth phone in July under the codename Z9 and said it could be Samsung's first rollable, because its hardware looked more like a tablet than a phone. ETNews has since described it as a second wide Fold instead. Separate Korean reports put Samsung's rollable panels on a 2028 target.
Neither report explains how the pair differs, or gives a price for either.
