How we read this
  • We read store prices every day and keep every read. The price shown is the newest read from the retailer named.
  • A read older than 36 hours is never shown as the current price. It reads "last seen" and carries no buy link.
  • “30-day low” is the lowest of our own reads for this product in the last 30 days, not a retailer’s claim. We print the number of reads beside it, and we say nothing about a low until a product has a week of reads.
  • “Lowest known”, where it appears, is older price history from published reports and imports. It is shown only when it is lower than the 30-day low, and it is not counted as reads.
  • The verdict is worked out from the price, the history and whether a newer model is coming. It never depends on who pays us.

Oura's IPO filing counts 5 million paying members

Oura's prospectus says 94% of ring buyers take the subscription and the company made $60.8 million in nine months. It also expects future features to be regulated as medical devices.

Oura is going public, and the ask is $16 billion

Oura and its backers are seeking up to $3 billion in a US listing that would value the ring maker above $16 billion. The accuracy fights arrive on the same calendar.

Oura's 95% sleep accuracy number draws a proposed class action

A ring cannot read brain waves or eye movement, so every sleep stage it reports is inferred from something else. The suit accepts that Oura admits this in its technical materials. Its argument is that the advertising never did.

Oura Ring 5 revealed at 40% smaller

Oura Ring 5 is 40% smaller than older versions. Turns out the biggest health tracking problem was the ring itself.
